IGO Club member Will Pearce will be travelling to Nicaragua and Costa Rica this summer on a 5 week expedition to work with Raleigh International. A 2018 Germanwatch paper identified Nicaragua as the fourth most vulnerable country to climate change and so much of Will’s work will focus on mitigating climate risk by focusing on 3 key areas:

1. Community – helping to build infrastructure with the local population and develop their own businesses
2. Water and sanitation hygiene – building water facilities and wells in order to make clean water more accessible
3. Resource management – working with the local populous on the effective management of their natural resources

The work is organised through Raleigh International and as such Will needs to reach the set fundraising target of £2,350. At the time of writing, Will had just over £1,000 to go. If you would like to support Will his Just Giving page can be found here.

Will is attending the IGO Scotland weekend in May as part of his training for the work in Central America and will be challenging his father, David, to be the first to cross the finishing line.
